Why buy a Castle ! ?

People often ask me how I came to buy Craig y Nos Castle. Well, it was on a bit of whim really. I fancied a change from London, where I lived, and ran a part business in the loft of a terraced house full of lodgers.

“Let’s go back to London,” I said to my partner. She refused, as we’d already booked into a local pub. As both of us were keen real ale drinkers, we stayed. That decision was to change our lives.

Apart from a university trip, I’d never been to Wales before.
On the plus side I was surprised by how close it was to London –three hours on a good run.

The next day, Tuesday, dawned bright and sunny. Once inside the castle I was struck by how peaceful and quiet it was and I immediately fell in love with Craig-y-Nos.

The Estate Agents, Knight Frank, were most efficient and the brochure arrived the next day which was a Saturday. They told me the Castle was ‘sold subject to contract’, but as the other owners had not yet finalised the sale with the other buyer they arranged for me to meet them on Tuesday.

Driving down on the Monday evening, I was disappointed at first sight of the building by how close it was to the road , and how wet Wales was. It was bucketing down with rain and the castle seemed rather bleak and empty. It looked as if we were wasting our time. >>>

This was a modest lifestyle, but one I was happy with. I just felt it would be nice to have a change of scene.

Browsing the net for somewhere in the Country, one Friday afternoon I chanced upon Craig y Nos Castle on a property finder site.  >>>
